Approach life decisively with calm collection and powerful precision. Inspired by modular samurai armor of the 15th and 16th centuries, the Shogun can be worn in four unique looks, allowing you to master all that life throws at you.
Look 1: Modern Moto This streamlined, double breasted motorcycle jacket is made with a high collar and a combination of breathable cotton and heavy duty nylon fabric. Clip your keys to the rings around the bottom hem and slip your phone into your pocket—you’re ready to ride!
Look 2: Urban Armor Add the pauldrons with four easy snaps to create bulk and extra protection when you’re out and about. Instantly enhancing the silhouette, these shoulder panels create a layered armor look without sacrificing any mobility.
Look 3: Tactical Carry With four easy snaps, attach two deep cargo pockets for extra storage. Inspired by the kusazuri hanging tassets of historical samurai armor, these removable pockets will let you keep all your futuristic gadgets close at hand.
Look 4: The General Attach all four tassets, the shoulder pauldrons, and zip the Shogun all the way up for the full effect. Snap the kote-style gauntlets to the cinched position and get ready for battle. No one will be able to stand in your way.
The Shogun is part of the Contender’s Circle! Only the very best Designer’s Workshop pieces level up to be here. These fighters are limited runs of 100 pieces, vying for a spot in the Hall of Champions!

Stylish. Unique. Impressive.
The Shogun is a masterpiece and a great work of art! The Obsidian color scheme goes very well with the overall design and presents a balanced display of black and shades of grey. The coat construction is robust and the thigh guards are made from durable material. The surcoat from Fell&Fair also fits well underneath the Shogun with either of the front configurations, whether zipped together or apart. I feel confident and powerful wearing this coat and I've been getting a lot of compliments, as well. Thank you VD team for this excellent design!
Great coat even better than expected
Got the coat quickly. Actually have both the MK 1 and the MK 2. Both are great feeling coats and make me feel like a total bad a**. Little getting used to but they are both amazing and well designed coats. The designs were amazing and as soon as I saw them I wanted them. I have one minor suggestion and that is only as a martial artist myself. For a coat that is patterned after Japanese Samurai armor, maybe on either the outside or the inside two sets of wrap around clips to hold a katana in its scabbard or a boken, especially for a cosplayer or as a martial artist to train with or walk around with. Be something a bit more unique I think but I do love the coats a lot. I haven't worn them alot because I am waiting to be able to go back to Renaissance Fairs or even maybe a couple of cons with the coat and the Kage pants.
Fantastic material quality, buy a size or two up.
Very Hardy material, feels like it'll hold up a long time. Only critique is if you want to have some comfortable movement, buy a size or two up, otherwise it can be a little snug. All around, like other Volante pieces I've seen and felt, fantastic durability genuinely sturdy stitching.
An amazing piece
This jacket is insanely nice and comfortable. Plus it looks great and I get all kinds of compliments about it. Super excited to get more from y'all in the future.
The Shogun Mk. II slays and reigns supreme!
This coat is a dream to wear! It’s so fashionable and versatile, the base moto jacket itself is form-fitting and fun to wear outdoors, does not compromise freedom of movement, plus it keeps surprisingly warm despite how light it is but is also thick enough to give a sense of protection from the elements. Being able to so easily add the armor features is a huge game changer and makes for fast and fun customization options. I am really in love with detailing, the hidden pockets integrated into the design, as well as the side-zipping panels that transform the jacket into a jinbabori that looks super cool. This is the most impressive coat I’ve seen in a long time and the fact that it’s so functional, modular, and versatile for both everyday wear and cosplay is a huge bonus and advantage it has over many others. It is truly a work of art merging form and function, tradition with modernity. Worth every penny!
