Q. When will more jackets become available?
Enzo is working hard to make more jackets available as soon as possible. For the foreseeable future, other jackets will be available in the same limited-run style as what we have done so far. For updates, keep checking back here and subscribe to our mailing list: http://eepurl.com/pJB6v
Q. Do you ship to the UK/Brazil/Singapore/Mars, etc.?
Yes. We will gladly ship anywhere. Our only restriction is that we cannot deliver to P.O. Boxes outside the United States. Cost varies, but our international packages average around 65 USD. For the United States, shipping runs from 10 to 30 USD, and somewhere between 20 and 40 USD for different areas of Canada and Mexico. If you do in fact live on Mars, your order will ship out with the next Rover. Delivery time: TBD.
As you finish ordering and enter your address, our UPS calculator will give you an exact shipping amount based on your location. For international shipping only: no customs fees or taxes are included in the calculated total, except for the UPS brokerage fee, which is automatically included in all their air based shipping.
Q. Where are your other designs?
We’re currently going through the process of digitizing, perfecting, and grading our other patterns for future use. They are not currently available to order, but we will be continuously adding reworked patterns of days past, as well as completely new and fresh designs on a fairly regular basis.
Q. How long will your products stay available?
Most product runs will last until the product runs completely out of stock. Later runs may last longer, or shorter, or have a constantly replenishing stock, depending on a number of factors, but they will always be announced clearly.
Q. I bought my jacket on your site, but it didn’t ship out immediately. Why?
It is probably a pre-order item, which is set to ship from our studio on a certain date. We order small runs of jackets – usually about 700 in a given run – but that number depends greatly on how many orders we get and how much interest people show. As a small company, we don’t have the capital to order the amount of fabric that it takes to make a run of jackets without your help. Our solution is to take as many orders as possible in advance (pre-orders), until we can afford a down-payment on the fabric. After ordering it, we have our manufacturer produce the jackets. Those two steps combined can take up to 10 weeks. After we receive them from the manufacturer, the jackets are shipped out to you. Everything marked “pre-order” in our shop is still in early stages of the manufacturing process. “In-the-studio” is a bit different. The items with that label are the left-overs from a previous run of manufactured items or special items. We have already received them from our manufacturer. We may have limited sizes and colors remaining, but we can ship them right away.
That said, if you’re confused about the shipping time frame or think your order should have shipped by now, don’t hesitate to contact us. We will be happy to look up your order and give you all the information on it.
Q. Can I get it in a color combination that isn’t listed?
Yes, we will be offering custom versions of most of our products. Check out Volante Design, Inc./Custom for new arrivals.
Q. Can this jacket or that jacket be ordered in leather? How much?
Not currently. For the foreseeable future we are focusing on textile goods, it would be almost double the price for materials alone, and would require finding new production facilities, reworking the pattern for a new material, and about a million hours of work. For custom pieces, it may be possible to do some leather work.
Q. You used to custom tailor things, how do I know this will fit me now?
The patterns (and all of the sizes) are still designed by Enzo, so the fit will still be the same. The ranges of sizes are the exact same as the patterns we were working with before; the only exceptions are for body shapes that don’t fit our regular measurement charts. If you are unsure about your sizing, feel free to contact us before you purchase and we can give you advice about the fit of our coats and measuring yourself.
Care and Cleaning
Q. Are your jackets dry-clean only?
We recommend dry cleaning, but hand washing works too. We can’t guarantee all colors of jacket will get through a washing machine happily, but the jackets will be fine structurally. Basically, this is a risk you may chose to take.
Design Work and Patterns
Q. I can’t afford to buy one of your jackets, would you be willing to send/sell me the pattern so I can make one for myself?
In short, no.
Enzo and the rest of Volante Design completely understand the difficulty that comes with being a student, recently graduated, unemployed, and so on. We’ve all been there. However, buying the pattern would cost significantly more than buying an individual jacket, and outside of possible licensing arrangements, Enzo isn’t interested in selling any of his patterns.
These patterns are the backbone of the whole business and without them we wouldn’t have a product. Even if you promised to only use it once for yourself and never again, we really can’t let the patterns out. Sorry.
